5 Organizing Tools for your Office

You walk into your office … There is paper everywhere, a coffee stain from the mug you didn’t finish yesterday, a can of half drank soda water, cords, and overall just chaos. You might not realize this, but when your office space is cluttered, so is your mind. Your ability to stay on task, be productive, and stay calm is being tested when you put yourself into an environment like this.

I have been revamping my office to feel lighter. This in turn is making me feel lighter, more excited to sit down and work and ultimately be way more productive than I have been in the past. The biggest thing I have learned is that the best way to keep productivity high is to limit the number of distractions your space potentially will offer you.

For me right now this looks like a lot of light-colored and clear products; however, you can get any color or material that suits the vibe that you are going for!

I have made a list for you of my top 5 favorite organizing tools for my office. These tools have dramatically shifted my productivity and ability to stay on task day in and day out.

3-drawer filing cabinet:

This has been the main game changer for me. This 3-drawer filing cabinet has saved a ton of space for me in my office. I used to have a big filing cabinet on the wall–one of the ones you probably have too. The cabinet had drawers that were super deep and seemed to go on forever. It took up a ton of space, and it didn't look great in the space. Well, this white 3-drawer filing cabinet is perfect for my very small home office. It fits functionally under my desk, which means I don’t have to get up all day long finding things. It has also pushed me to purge a lot of things I have been hoarding in that old cabinet that were no longer necessary to me.

Acrylic monitor stand:

The stand that has taken away double chins and a sore neck is a godsend. Okay, if you work on your computer a lot you’re probably not realizing how much you’re looking down. Whether it’s on calls or simply working from your laptop, you're doing your body a disservice. I personally do a lot of Zoom meetings and computer work. I didn’t realize how often I was looking down at my computer. This stand keeps my computer at eye level, especially when I am surfing the internet for design inspo. I now can look straight ahead, no more neck pain, and no more Zoom double chin. It also doubles as a space saver because I am able to put my notebook underneath it out of my way but close for when I need to grab it and put something inside.

Acrylic filing stand:

Clearly, I am going with the clear vibe in my office. This next piece sits on top of my desk. I have a large desk so I have plenty of room to store things, but I don’t want it to be filled with junk. I felt that it was nice to have some upright files on my desk and this acrylic two-tier stand holds the folders that I use for any active client projects I am working on. Once again, it’s functional and matches the other organization bins on my desk. Pro-tip: I have noticed that because the majority of the products I am using are clear, it helps me keep what is inside of them organized. Whereas, if it was a colored box, I would know that I could throw something in there and no one would see it, which would eventually create a total mess for me.

Clear plastic drawer organization set:

Yes, I have gotten on the trend to have my drawers filled with bins to help me stay organized. People can hate all they want, it’s a pleasure to look at and does that job. In the drawer on my desk, I have the clear plastic drawer organization set. This set comes in four different sizes, and oh my gosh it’s the best thing ever when I shut the door and stuff doesn't slide around. Pens, paper clips, checkbooks, (because I do my personal and work stuff at my desk), a little stapler, highlighters–it holds it all! Everything I need stays in the clear bins. I open the drawer and it’s just telling me to have a good day. It’s like a glorified junk drawer. I no longer have a cup on my desk with 76,000 pens and highlighters, and I am never going back!

Phone holder:

This may seem unnecessary, but hear me out. I bought this and it felt like a really boujee move, but it’s worth it. I got the clear acrylic phone holder. You don’t need this … but you need this! By boujee I don’t mean expensive, I mean something you don’t think you need but want to buy anyway. This phone holder sits on my desk and is the perfect place for my phone when I listen to music, have an occasional Facetime, or simply have the time displayed like a clock.

At 35 years old, I finally decided that everything having a place and being organized really brings me peace. Everything in my office now has a place. This makes it so much easier to sit down to work on my business, journal, or read because everything is organized and welcoming. Having everything look so uniform is really rewarding!
