Quick & Easy Bathroom Refresh: An Interior Designer’s Guide to Creating a Welcoming Space for Guests
So, let's dive into some easy and affordable ways to spruce up your bathroom and create a welcoming space for your guests (or yourself!) even when you are pinched for time.
Let’s start with toilet paper
Do people really care about toilet paper designs?
Probably not, but I do.
A small but significant touch—fancy toilet paper designs. Upgrade from your everyday role to something a bit more luxurious.
Towel racks are something of the past.
Instead of the traditional rack, try a small towel rack on the counter or opt for towel tissues for a modern twist. Additionally, arrange a tray or basket with neatly folded towels for your guests to use. This not only adds a decorative element but also provides a practical solution for towel storage. This basket can be put away if it isn't functional for you and only brought out when guests are coming! This makes the process so easy.
Nothing is more frustrating than reaching for soap and finding an empty bottle…I mean; we want our guests washing their hands, am I right?! Make sure you have a fully stocked soap dispenser, preferably with a pleasant scent and a nice pump. If you use a bar of soap regularly, great, but guests typically do not like using bars of soap for washing their hands.
Mirror, Counters, and Floors
The trifecta of speed cleaning goes a long way.
Nothing like going to the bathroom at someone’s house and seeing a nice peanut butter smear on the cabinet and pee around the toilet bowl…kids are kids, we know, BUT we want to feel like our home is clean when company comes over!
Wiping down these three parts of the bathroom gives an instant refresh and majorly up levels your clean game (or at least so that it appears clean).
It can’t be just me, but I think the “wet towel” smell makes anyone cringe a bit. Even if it is only used once, towels just love to hold on to that “wet/used” smell. Hanging new ones when guests come will instantly get rid of that stench. Pro tip: Keep these towels hidden away and pulled out just for guests!
I love reed diffusers, or really any type of essential oil diffuser. In my home, I like sticking to synthetic fragrance-free products. Diffusing orange, lemon, eucalyptus, or lavender can make your bathroom smell and feel really fresh.
Rugs and Shower Curtain
Don't forget to pay attention to your bathroom rugs and shower curtain. Give them a shake-out or, if they're looking worn or outdated, consider replacing them. A fresh rug and a well-tucked shower curtain can instantly transform the look of your bathroom and make it feel more put-together.
Make it or break it: Decor
If you would enjoy playing a game while going to the bathroom, you are in luck with these adorable, fun signs for your bathroom!
Add a personal touch to your bathroom with cute signs or small decorative items. Hang them using command strip velcro, so they can easily be removed or changed. Consider witty or inspirational quotes, or go for a more aesthetic look with vintage-style artwork or botanical prints. These small accents can add personality and charm to your bathroom space.
Relax and stay a while
I don't know about you, but I want overnight guests in my home to feel at home, relaxed, at ease and never to feel like a burden. One of the ways I let my guests know how valued they are is by having a basket of necessities put out for them when they arrive. I do not want them to have to feel awkward digging around in drawers or asking to borrow some forgotten toothpaste. Having things out and accessible for your guests allows them to feel at home.
Remember, this project is for YOU too! Take the time to create a space that makes you feel relaxed and proud of your home.
Finally, sprucing up your bathroom before guests arrive is a simple yet impactful way to create a welcoming and comfortable space for them. It is all in the little details.
