The Power of Reading: A Personal Journey
Friends,
Sometimes, after a long and exhausting day, I feel the need to sit down and spill the tea of my day. Sometimes it’s to a friend or a journal or sometimes I need to bury my head in a book.
Despite being a night owl by nature, I've discovered the serenity, mental clarity, relaxation, and rejuvenation that comes from a good book. There was a time when I used to say that I had no time to read. But all that changed last year.
As a wife, mom of three, and business owner, I always made the excuse that I never had enough time to read. It wasn’t until I did 75 hard last year (you can read about that here) when I was forced to read 10 pages a day and it truly changed my life.
The Transformational Power of Reading
Reading has changed my life in so many profound ways, opening my mind and expanding my knowledge in numerous areas. From books on finance that taught me how to save and invest, to ones that have helped me understand my potential as a woman in today's world and how to raise my 3 beautiful daughters well.
I remember buying this book on Gabrielle Chanel. Flipping through its pages, I felt like I was stepping back in time, into an era I felt I was meant to be born in. Perhaps it’s simply my love for the roaring 20s fashion, but the experience was enlightening. The power of reading is transformational.
Humility and Gratitude
Reading about the struggles and accomplishments of iconic women like Chanel, filled me with a profound sense of humility. It reminded me that even on my worst days, I still have so many blessings and so many things that women before me fought for.
I want to give you a list of books that have had a significant impact on my life. Books that have provided me with a comforting escape when I felt overwhelmed by work, or when I needed a break from my worries.
A Beautiful Journey
Sipping on my electrolyte water and going through the pages of the Chanel book, I found myself deeply moved by the depiction of her life. It made me want to tell my own story, to be a source of inspiration and support for those who might feel alone, or those who are surrounded by the wrong people. I’ve always been passionate about being a “big sister” and light in this dark world.
Building this supportive network of women at this stage in my life at the ripe age of 36 feels surreal, like living in a dream.
Thank you for being part of my journey, for reading, and for being there. It means more to me than you can ever know.
