You CAN Start a Business

You don’t have to dream of a better future, you can create one. It starts with you.

Let’s talk about your current fulfillment levels. If you’re waking up and feeling defeated the moment your eyes open … something has to give. Especially if the reason for that dissatisfaction is that you have this burning desire to create something, and you’re ignoring it. Could this lack of fulfillment be because you’re currently working a job you don’t like, answering to someone who isn’t very kind, or just wanting to create something that is your own?

Well, I’ve got news for you! Anyone can start a business. Anyone if … you have the drive, the self-discipline, the work ethic, and the passion then yes, it is in fact quite possible for you to finally get the fulfillment in your life that you’re missing. I truly believe that anything you put your heart into, any craft that you're good at, can become a profitable business. It doesn't matter what it is as long as you put your heart and soul into the endeavor and accept that you’re going to fail, accept that you’re going to learn along the way, and accept that you won’t be an expert when you start it.  You must just tell yourself that you’re not going to give up.

Sometimes people think that they want to own a business so that they don’t have to work. This is not the reason, I repeat, THIS IS NOT THE REASON to start your own business because quite frankly it’s not true. For me, starting my own business and morphing it into what it is now has been quite the opposite of not working. I never would have dreamt that my interior design, decorating, and renovation business would have started from a hobby of mine. I used to refinish furniture and chalk paint and eventually, it turned into this. I can’t believe it! It goes back to knowing that you just have to get started. If you have a craft that you’re good at, you should share your craft with the world. We all have different talents, and our talents have the possibility of taking us places we never anticipated on going.

When I started my business, I would stay up until 3 in the morning working on projects, making coasters, and painting furniture, all while my family was sleeping. Why? Because I personally wanted to feel like I could financially contribute to our family somehow. Years ago my husband and I made an agreement that I would leave the hospital and stay home to raise our kids. I had several people tell me that this time with my girls would fly by so fast (and it has). So because I was able to stay home and be there for all the milestones, memories, scraped knees, and cuddles, I jumped at the opportunity. I’m grateful to say we were able to make it work, and if you can, I encourage you to as well.

My husband is so kind and hardworking. I’m grateful that he would never say, “That’s my money” or, “I made that money.” But eventually, I needed a mommy hobby. This business really started as a hobby before I started to branch out and get clients. I wish I had the confidence I have now when I started, but I am learning to love the process even in hindsight. So I suggest that if you've ever even considered this, do it. Everyone starts at the bottom. The people that get to the top are the people that are constantly learning, evolving, and asking questions. You can do the same.

Once you get the itch to be an entrepreneur or start a small business, you’re going to try to figure out how to be successful but also mold that around your family. Having both is literally the best of both worlds. It’s not lost on me that owning your own business is not a 9 to 5, it’s 24/7, but it does give me the flexibility I want. I am able to go to all of my kids t-ball games, basketball camps, and shows. This is why I value being a business owner. I don’t have to answer to somebody else about my working hours. My most important job on this earth is to be a mom and a wife. I will continue to be appreciative of the long hours that I have so that I can mold that around my family.

You can start a business! You just have to remember that there will be tears, times you will doubt yourself, and times that you feel like you want to give up. The easy thing to do would be to quit. You will get so much fulfillment if you push through the difficult times and enjoy the triumphs when your business is thriving. In turn, this will make you money and most importantly bring you so much joy.
